Collage distortion

And using the hexagon shapes i've been using throughout ..i made these collages.

Same picture three times just collaged in different ways using hexagons.

Drawing distortion.

After taking the distorted photos I thought I'd give drawing them a go.
Both my sister and aunt who have panic attacks agreed that they were very ''panic attacky''.

Its just the same face drawn three times overlapping each other.

Photographic distortion.

Tried to recreate the blurred / distorted vision again..
I used a long exposure on a camera while moving to get the effect and then afterward I edited them on my laptop.
Should fill a few pages in the ol' sketch book.

Daniel Rozin

Just realised how separate my mirror box is to the rest of my project ..so I thought i should
brain storm some ideas relating to mirrors and maybe update my sketch book.

I found a good video here ! don't ask about the music ...I have no clue...

Panic attack on the bus.

Buses are another place that can cause panic attacks.. so i just toke more photos through my fence.

this last one is just of my bag but i like the photo.

Falling to pieces

claustrophobics often compare panic attacks to falling to pieces... I wanted to recreate this as an art piece and also conduct an experiment as to whether or not passing people will stop and help the sufferer out and put back the pieces.

The result? the majority of lsad students will help you out if you're ever having a panic attack. :)

Jigsaw

So Im making an interactive piece ...
ill explain it more later but heres the paintings for it so far..

Calm

 Panic

Old picture

Forgot to upload this picture from ages ago.. just the one from my panic attack.. mirror.. box.. thing?

So many hexagons..

Again i asked my sister about panic attacks and she said everything gets distorted and you just feel like your falling to pieces..
So i toke the hexagon shapes from the fence and used them here ...

so this one is more so the 'falling to pieces' part..
the crowd in the background is the cause of the attack.

and here is a collage for distortion ...

More photos

Finally got the photos from the other side of the plastic fence...

Photos of an elavator..the cause of many claustrophobic attacks

Next i'm taking the hexagon shapes from the fence and using them in new work.

Painting...sorta

I tried painting the photos i took earlier ... I forgot to take a picture of the painting but heres a line drawing of the same one...

Back to basics.

So i decided to revisit my main theme, claustrophobia (restriction). Still using hands to symbolise restriction , i drew this..
but seen as I've done a lot of 2d work i decided to try out making 3d hands from plastic gloves filled with water...i also froze them.

i like the way the ice melts the same way that a panic attack eases off over time.
Yeah, i doubt i'll go any further with this but it was worth trying.

Small start on photography.

So I had a tutorial and showed my tutors the trapped paintings. they suggested that instead of displaying paintings behind the plastic ..i should take photos through the plastic. Both of me and of what I'm seeing thats causing the panic attack.

I like the way the photos turned out, mostly because my sister who suffers from panic attacks always says everything gets blurry and distorted when she has them. it also looks kind of watery which is like the cold sweats

Next will be to take photos from the other side, or maybe attempt to paint the photos I've taken.

Trapped paintings.

It's been...a while since my last blog post, so i'll try to recap over everything i've done since.

I really wanted to try out casting so I made a clear cast of chicken wire.
the chicken wire is meant to look like a fence which is kind of a symbol of being trapped/ restricted (claustrophobia). The reason it's made of clear plastic is that claustrophobia is all in the mind.
so the fence is kind of imaginary. I also did the same with a wooden crate.
So i wanted to display paintings behind these casts...for these painting a tried to incorporate some of the main features of claustrophobia.

With the first painting I tried to show the symptoms of :
Going insane - the clown like makeup
Cold sweats - the use of cool colours like blue and purple.

Then for the second the symptoms:
Feelings of suffocation - Hands over mouth and hazy like apperance
Nausea - Green colour.

Panic Attack.

Claustrophobia often leads to panic attacks. Some of the symptoms of a panic attack are:
  • De-realization (feelings on unreality)
  • Fear of losing control or going insane
  • Paresthesias (tingling sensation)

But seen as panic attacks don't have a specific form I've decided to use angular, sharp shapes to represent them.
Panic attack    -    Tranquil mind

After sketching out the idea I then constructed a 3D piece for the box I made earlier.

When placed in the box it's reflection gives the impression of growth.
Just as panic attacks start off small and then elevate out of control.

Drawings by Eibatova Karina

This is just an artist I came across and really liked. They deal with both Outer Space and Psychical Space.
